Optical studies of mutual redox and partitioning of coordination sites between Ce3+/Ce4+ and Fe2+/Fe3+ ions in Na2O–CaO–SiO2 glass

The absorption spectra of the Fe– and Ce–doped 15Na2O–15CaO–70SiO2 glasses (mol%), melted in oxidising reducing conditions, have been analysed. A repeatable set fitting parameters has developed for Ce3+ Ce4+ ions, while previously published were used Fe–ions. Ce–ions significantly decrease proportion Fe2+ions both electric– gas–melted glasses, ions content increases due to mutual redox between Fe Ce, most effectively reduced glasses. Fe3+ octahedral sites tetrahedral increase. photoluminescence (PL) emission (excited at 355 nm laser) confirmed changes low concentrations. PL is very weak may come from sites. peak was strong consist four components.
